Trout Complex - Ether Frolic
The Future
Songs tend to just happen. At the time this CD was completed there were any number of musical concepts just floating around waiting to have something done with them. Most of these will remain just that - a good concept that doesn't seem to fit anywhere. Other things, however, evolve over time - the proper ingredients make themselves available - and a 'song' or a 'piece' or whatever unit of musical measure you prefer is born.
So currently, several songs are in process -- very hard to 'finish' because there is always something more you can add and because I have limited technology at my disposal. Some information on my 'Works in Progress' are:
Last Summer: This one is *just* about finished. It's a good upbeat tune about nothing in particular, has some nice hooks and the traditional bitchin' guitar solo. It just needs a couple of the tracks redone and then it'll be essentially finished.
The Walk: The Walk is about halfway finished. Lyrics and structure are done, and some intricate interplay between several instruments is in the process of being penned. There's also one transition, from bridge back to verse that is incredibly rocky but that'll get fixed, don't worry.
Trust: This is the latest song that I've been working on and just about everything fell nice and together early. The piano, which is the heart of the song and vocals are done, and an almost two-minute orchestral section has been composed and test-recorded and sounds *great*. All it needs is a little 'glue' and it'll be done.
The Price: The Price was started a while ago, has a good concept, one-and-a-half good verses, a workable chorus and just about nothing else. Sometimes you hit a brick wall with a song and that's what happened here. I think it's begging for lyrics for another verse or two then we'll be back on track with this one.
Searching: The lyrics and chord progression for this song were written when I was 16, and this was the very first song I ever wrote. Needless to say the original version is a little rough and the song is so ingrained in my psyche that it's difficult to settle on a particular arrangement. The latest version is a three-part harmony resting atop an arpeggiated classical guitar. This will almost certainly change.
In addition to the dozens of snippets I have on tape that might one day find themselves incorporated into a song, there are other projects I'm working on. I sporadically compose music which is vaguely 'classical' and I've recently gotten it into my head that I'd like to cover Zager and Evans' "In the Year 2525" but I don't have the slightest idea how to legally go about this.
I have no idea when a next CD will be available. I would say on the order of two years from now but I'm not doing this with any deadline. Once 9 or so songs are 'completed' a new CD will occur. I'll let you know.
